Morning Glory あさがお Asagao

Flower language: illusory love, fleeting beauty

After a night's rest, morning flowers bloom quietly in the morning,

Like an angel song's loudspeaker, broadcasting the beauty brought by the morning light,

Delicate as she, not fighting against the scorching sun, staying true to herself, closing her eyes silently,

Waiting for the next morning light.

Emily Sensei says:

Why is the same flower called "cow-leading flower" in China, but "morning face" in Japan? It is said that the seeds of morning glory in ancient China were a very precious medicinal material. If someone gave you a morning glory seed, it was as valuable as gifting you a cow, so it was named "cow-leading flower". After this seed spread to Japan in the Edo period, the morning glories blooming in summer happened to coincide with the Tanabata Festival, and the Vega star was nicknamed "Asagao Princess". The romantic Japanese sublimated the story of the meeting of Cowherd and Weaver Girl into : when the morning glories bloom, the day the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl meet will come soon! This is the reason why morning glory is called "morning face" in Japan.
