Uiro ういろう
Made of rice, uiro is a soft and elastic, slightly chewy mochi. "Uiro" was originally the name of a rank of officials in Tang Dynasty China. At that time, it was quite popular among the officials to use hair medicine to keep their heads smelling fresh. Later, Japan had a popular wagashi made with brown sugar, which looked similar to the officials' hair medicine with the same name, "Tou Ding Xiang" (over the top fragrance), so the name "uiro" became widely spread.
Usagi Family ウサギの家族
In the Japanese world, rabbits represent good symbolic meanings. Their strong reproductive ability signifies that the family will have many descendants; their excellent jumping ability and fast footsteps symbolize great ambitions and can quickly bring good luck and blessings to the family.
Teacher Emily, founder and master craftman at Toukaya, loves white rabbits. When she was working at a 70-year-old Wagashi shop in Japan, it happened to be named Usagiya (Rabbit House) , so when she started her business in 2006 after returning to Taiwan, she created a rabbit couple called "Yukidama" and "Kodama". However, Teacher Emily felt that the couple should have a child of love, so "Ikagadama" was born, completing the Usagi Family.
