Flower language: forget your woes

Lonely traveler in a foreign land

Pining for a loving mother far away

Drowning sorrows in a sea of daylilies

Ephemeral beauty basking in the sun

Trumpeting feelings of missing one's mother

-"Wagashi Bible", p.87

This flower is Emily sensei's original creation. The whole flower looks like a lily with its petals turned back. Hemerocallis is the familiar "daylily" in Taiwan. The orange-red petals in full bloom under the bright sun are a favorite scene for photographers to capture during the flower season. The name comes from the Greek word "Hermerocallis". Each flower only blooms from sunrise to sunset, reflecting the meaning of "the beauty of a day".

Daylilies also represent the mother in China. It is often mentioned in a catchy poem: "Whoever speaks of the heart of an inch of grass will be rewarded with three rays of spring." This refers to the daylily, which is equivalent to the carnation in Europe and America.

In the Compendium of Materia Medica, Hemerocallis fulva has the effects of quenching thirst and relieving annoyance, relieving melancholy and broadening the mind, making people calm and relieving worries, so it is also known as "forget-your-woes grass". When tasting this wagashi, put aside the worries of worldly affairs for a while and fully experience the beauty of Japanese confectionery!
