• 宋代以來，清明一直是民間看重的節日，因為這一天人們要到郊山祭祖掃墓。其實宋代前，掃墓並不是非清明不可，舊唐俗習慣在舊曆三月三上巳節掃墓；此外，江浙人家也有在寒食日掃墓吃冷食的風俗，源於晉文公祭拜因焚山而亡的介之推。現代人誤以為清明與寒食是同一天，其實寒食源於遠古時期人們相信天地間有火神，每年清明會賜新火給人類，因此在清明前人們要熄滅舊火等待新火、冷灶寒食，最早的寒食是1個月，逐步縮減為7日、5日、3日，再演變為1天。
